San Fransisco offers a gorgeous mix of epic vistas, charming streets, a sense of natural wonder and some of the best bookshops around. This is a map of my favorite shops and places to read in the city I love most.

Nestled between the residential streets of Sunset District and the tranquil Golden Gate Park, Green Apple Books Inner Sunset branch is an ideal first stop on a day out in SF. My most charmed days often begin with buying a book AND an ice cream across the way at Hometown Creamery all before noon. Then it's off to the park.

As you exit the chilling fog of Inner Sunset you're greeted by the redwood lined paths and be wondering how you were just on a city street. Just moments later you'll be shedding your jacket and enjoying the warmth of dappled sunlight through the trees above. It is hard to imagine a more ideal afternoon.
Point B | The Booksmith | The Haight | ★★★★
Just to the east of Golden Gate Park, The Haight offers perhaps the last remaining sense of the "real" San Fransisco you've heard so much about. Hippies. Thrift Shop. The Grateful Dead House. And of course the annual "Nude Summer of Love Parade." If you know me, that doesn't sound like my place but The Booksmith offers one of the most reliable selection of literary fiction books out there. So reliable that I actually have to resist visiting as I'm destined to see (and buy) that one book I couldn't find anywhere else. And worst of all, these books are never used and always full price. Like many things in The Haight, it should be treated as a delicacy to have every now and then but is unsustainable long term.
Point 2 | Buena Vista Park | The Haight | ★★★
Its sort of all in the names... Hell of a view looking across the entire city to the north and out to Oakland to the right. Sort of feels like you're stumbling into an untouched environment in the middle of a city - few benches mostly just fallen tree branches. But man, what a beautiful view.
